Westies in Need - WiN

Toronto Westie Walk-2011

The Annual Toronto Westie Walk and Fun Day enjoyed the most successful fundraising day in our rescues' history!

We had 290 Westies and their families attend our Westie Walk this year! The Toronto Westie Walk is the largest Westie Walk in Canada and continues to be the largest Westie event in North America!!!!!!

If you could not make it to the Westie Walk but would still like to make a donation, it is easy to do.

If you do on-line banking it is as simple as a few mouse clicks.

or if you would prefer to mail in a donation, please send your donation by cheque (made out to Westies in Need). Our mailing info can be found on our contacts page.

The day began at 11:00 am with registration, followed by a photo session with our official photographers! As our participants waited for our day to begin they checked out our donations/draw table and purchased tickets for some of the great items we had on our donation table.
We also had some wonderful vendors this year so there was lots to do before the day began.

Next all our walkers could go to our "grooming station" for nail clips or a quick brush out for their Westie before the group picture!
Our groomer Barb very generously donated her time and all monies collected to Westies in Need!

Photo Contest Winners

We once again had a Westie photo contest this year and we were blown away with the response from all of you. We received 283 entries!!! That was amazing!
Click here for a slide show to see all our photo contest winners...wait till you see the Best in Show picture!!!!
At about noon it was time for our big group picture and our Westie Blessing, very nicely done by our own piper, Stewart!

Next our 10 to 15 minute walk began around Mississauga Valley Park, lead by our very own bagpipers!

Thanks so much to Krizzy, Stewart and Audrey for piping for us....you guys are amazing!

After the walk, the Westies hit the Westie Watering Station for a little drink.
Next was one of our favourite parts of the day
The Parade of Rescues
Everyone got their tissues out…they are too cute and are all now in forever, happy and loving homes!
We gave each Parade of Rescue participant a very nice goody bag just made for them and their new and forever parents received a lanyard and medal that they proudly wore for the day that said "I Rescued my Westie!"

Over 50 of our rescues came out to enjoy the day!

Next it was time to continue the fun...let the Games begin!

Our first game this year was Musical Hoops..we had 2 heats of that game. The 2 winners of the Musical Hoops each took home a very nice gift bag just stuffed with treats and toys and other fun stuff.
Helena Capes and her Westie, Lola Oskar and Timothy Shura and their Westie, Gapa

Next was the always popular Wiener Dunkin!

In the first heat the winner was Ian Rush and his Westie, August. In the second heat the winners were Sarah Tomlin and her girl Chloe!

The 2 winners of the Wiener Dunkin also took home very nice gift bags.

The next event was our Westie Terrier Races. We had 10 groups of 10 Westies race (with each race winner getting a nice stuffy to bring home) and then we had the ultimate Race Off.
The overall winner of our Westie races was Taliesyn-Lloyd! He may have been small, but he could fly! Taliesyn-Lloyd got a big gift bag as well.

The family who won the big, big prize for collecting the most money was Janet and Brian Edwards!!! THANKS!!! Enjoy that Westie diamond necklace Janet!

The family who won the prize for travelling the farthest was Millie Mattinson and Jim Spivey who came 350 km from Windsor, Ontario with their Westie, Frosty.

The Oldest Westie who attended our event this year was Mac, who turned 16 last April and our youngest Westie was Jack who was only 10 weeks old! Both families and their Westies got some great prizes!

Next was our draws from the donation table...it was over-flowing this year and then it was time to enjoy our BBQ and spend some time talking with other Westie lovers.

We just couldn't do this at all with out the help from our volunteers and our sponsors and of course…you, the Westie Walkers, who support our event each year.

A big thank you goes out to our Volunteers who helped out the day of the walk.

A very special thank you also goes out to the Westie Walk committee for 2011...they did a great job.

I would also like to send HUGE thanks out to all the folks who had contacted sponsors on our behalf and brought prizes for this year's walk. THANKS!

The sponsors have been very generous to us this year and we just can't say Thank You enough to them as well! Click here to see who they are...please support them if you can!

Folks asked me..."are we gonna do this again next year???" Well of course we are!!!!
We already know the 2012 date...Sunday September 9th! We know that cause we read it on our brand new Westies in Need calendars that we all bought at the walk!

Thanks again, to each and every one of you!

I think dogs are the most amazing creatures; they give unconditional love. For me they are the role model for being alive
