Westies in Need - WiN
|
Success StoriesWesties in Need (WiN) works very hard
to match our wonderful dogs with equally wonderful new families.
Here
are some of our success stories!
|
 |
Maggie is a
5 year old female who came in as a family surrender as their circumstances had
changed and could no longer keep her.

She is such a
dear little girl who needs to find just the right family!
An update-Maggie has been adopted by
Anna!
|
 |
Chase is a
6 year old boy who has lived his entire life in a puppy mill...a bad, bad mill!
He is so sweet and so loving for a boy who has not had very much human contact
till now.

Chase is learning how to be a Westie and we
are gonna make sure he gets the very best care and the very best forever
family!
He needs to be neutered and have his dental work done-which have
all been booked for next week-and then he will be all set! |
 |
Rocky is a 5
month old boy who was living in a home with a young child and he was not very
happy living with a toddler.

Our thanks go out to Rocky's parents for calling us
and asking if we could help find him a more suitable home.
He is an
adorable boy with one ear up and one ear down (Yes we know that as he grows
both his ears will stand up-but we gotta say... we think they look kinda cute
just the way they are!
An update-Rocky's
new name is Robbie and he has been adopted by Linda and has a new Westie
brother as well! Robbie and his brother Angus are now the very best of
friends!
Well...as predicted...both ears are now up and he is
looking good! Look at Robbie now...he is such a beautiful Westie!
 |
 |
Joplin is a
2 year old female who was surrendered to us by her breeder when she no longer
wanted to use her in her program. She was released into our adoption program
along with her sister and "husband" (the 2 little ones you will see just
below!)
This tiny, sweet girl had JUST finished nursing a litter of
puppies when she was transported to us and into the waiting arms of her foster
Mom and was then off to meet her 2 new Westie brothers and all reports are that
they are as close as can be already!
Joplin (named after the famous
Janice!) still needs to be spayed but we will have to give her a bit of time to
recover first.
An update-Joplin has been
adopted. This tiny girl is loving her new life! |
 |
Jock is a 3
year old un-neutered male who was Joplin's (above) and Riley's (below) husband.
Now... this is one seriously nice Westie- house broken,
wonderful manners and is a happy, happy boy. His foster family just LOVE him
and we can not thank Michael and Caroline enough for wanting to foster this boy
for us.
He has his neuter appointment this week and then will be all
ready to begin a great new life!
An update-Jock
was neutered yesterday and came through with flying colours! Even better
news...he has been adopted! Michael and Caroline just love our boy and he will
be a member of their family. |
 |
Riley is a 2
1/2 year girl who is one of those once in a lifetime kinda Westies.
This girl is just about perfect and her new foster Mom Kate is
already in love!
Riley has her spay appointment all set for next
week! We will also get the Vet to take a look at her nails and to evaluate
her skin as she is a bit itchy right now- but we know that her coat will
improve with some good food and after a few baths as well.
An update-Riley has been spyed and came through 100% and is
now adopted! Her new Mom says she is the most perfect Westie in the
world...well look at that face, how can we disagree!!!!!!!!!! |
 |
Maggie May
is a 2 1/2 year old girl who was surrendered to us by her family.

She is spayed, house trained and up to date on shots
and we know she will make the most wonderful addition to any home!
We
are going through our applications right now to make sure our new girl goes to
the very best home-this is one seriously cute girl.
Look at that
face...
just makes us just melt!
An
update-Maggie May has found a home. We had so many WONDERFUL applications it
was very hard to choose, but Maggie May met her new Mom, Laura and her new and
wonderful Dad, David and it was love at first sight. |
 |
William is a
6 year old (that is a guess-he may be much younger) male Westie who was taken
from an animal shelter by one of our fabulous WiN volunteers. After she took
him from the shelter, she brought him straight to the Vet and as she was
waiting for her appointment with the Vet, began to read his paperwork.

Our little William was set for euthanasia the very next
day...the very next day!!!!! It was meant to be that she was there and he
was saved!
Sweet William is now on some medication for a yeast
infection, anti-biotics for bad, bad ear infections and is painfully thin due
to his bad teeth (our next order of business-dental for William!) For some
reason he has been shaved down (except his head and tail)???
He sure
looks like he has been someone's pet at one time as he is neutered already and
has wonderful manners in the house.
An
update-William's new name is Duke and he has found a wonderful new home with
Tracey and her cat, Apples!!!! Duke
goes into the Vet this week for his dental work and then he will be all
set! |
 |
Honey Bun is
a 4 month old puppy who was purchased by her owner and then surrendered because
she has a condition called CMO. Craniomandibular Osteopathy (also known as
"Westie Jaw") is a non-cancerous growth along both lower jawbones.
Fortunately, CMO is treatable and puppies nearly always fully recover.
Honey Bun is in the very best care for an extended foster period and
then she will be ready for adoption.
Westies in Need is
committed to making sure this little girl gets the best care possible and lives
a long and healthy life.
An update-Honey Bun
has found a new home. She is living with Chloe the Westie and has 2 new
parents, Larry and Karen who are making sure this little girl gets the best
love and care. |
 |
Karais a 6
year old female who was surrendered to our rescue. This little girl (and we do
mean little!) is the sweetest lover we have seen in a while! She needed to be
spayed and was not up to date on her shots, but is now all spayed with her
shots complete and we will be looking for her forever home.
 She
is being fostered right now...and here is what her foster family said about our
Kara:
We would love Kara to find someone who is retired, a women
would be be best we think. She sticks to us like glue, so the person who gets
her will have a dog that is loyal for sure! She is currently house broken, but
you still need to watch for the signs. We try and keep her on a schedule and
she knows that her business is done outside. There are still occasional
"accidents' but they are very few and far between. She is a such a good
girl! An update-Kara has been adopted and is
now part of Helen and Ray's family! |
 |
Lili is a
TINY 3 year old Westie who just had a litter of puppies and was surrendered to
our rescue by her previous owners after the pups were weaned. She is so
small-just a little peanut in fact- about 10 lbs!

Lili is being fostered right now with a wonderful
family who are helping her to regain her confidence.
She still needs to
be spayed and also needs lots of TLC and we will make sure she gets everything
she needs.
An update-Lili has been adopted and
is now part of Richard and Duane's family! |
 |
Kamy is a
very lovely little 6 year old female who was surrendered to us from a breeder
who no longer wanted to use her in her breeding program.
She
is such a kind and gentle girl and will need a loving home where she can become
the wonderful Westie we know she will be.
An
update-Kamy has been adopted and will be Carol's pride and joy
forever! |
 |
Chicklet is
a 5 month old little girl who was looking for a new home.

She is such a loving little one and like all Westie puppies,
a very busy girl!
Thanks so much to Natalie for fostering her
for us till we can find her just the right
family!
An update-Chicklet
has been adopted! She and Maryann and her new Westie brother Charlie are so
happy to be a forever family. |
 |
Roxi is a 2
1/2 year old Westie who's family who could no longer care for her.
She is such a sweet little girl who just wants a new and forever
home and we can make that happen!!!
We can not thank Valerie enough for
calling us and letting us help place this lovely girl.
An update-Roxi has been adopted by Isabel and is just loving
her new life! |
 |
CJ is a 5
month old Westie who was purchased by a family who also have a young child.
Having a baby and a puppy at the same time proved a bit too much for the family
so they asked if we could help.

CJ is the typical Westie
puppy...he is so much fun, has lots of energy but loves to cuddle his time away
as well.
What can we say, we just love puppy breath!!!!!
Don't
you just love those eyes!
An update-CJ has now
been adopted by one of our WiN volunteers and is having the time of his life
playing with her other dogs!
|
 |
Toby is a 7
year old boy who's father was moving into an apartment and selling his home,
and sadly could not bring Toby with him. He's an incredibly loving, energetic
little guy with human like characteristics.

He gets along with everyone and every animal - he's lived
with 2 cats for the last 2 years. He's smart, trained and full of love. He's
also great with children and loves to cuddle.
This boy is a real cutie
and we just can not thank the family enough for contacting us and allowing us
to find Toby a new home.
An update-Toby has
found a home! Suzanne and her family just love this boy. |
 |
Mr. Magoo is
a 9 year old boy who was sadly surrendered to Westies in Need. His family were
having a health crisis and they could no longer care for him. We were there in
a minute to help! He is neutered and all up to date with his shots and will
be in foster care for a while till we can find just the right home for
him.
His foster Mom says he may be 9 years old chronologically, but has
more energy that a 4 year old!!! He would love a house that someone was
home all day, as he just loves being with people and is not very happy being
left alone for a long time.
An
update-Mr. Magoo has been adopted. He met Rita (his new Mom) and his new Yorkie
brother, Oscar, and he just knew it was the right home for him!
They had a wonderful play in the park
and then he and Oscar went home with their Mom to start their new life as
brothers! YEA!!! |
 |
Charlie is a
1 year old boy who had a very hard start to life. Born into a bad situation, he
remained there, with his brother Toby (below) till the owner agreed to
surrender him to us...what a relief!

Charlie is such a
lovely and kind boy who only wants a nice family to love him...he has had such
bad luck already in his short life...but that is all behind him now.
We
will make sure he only knows love and happiness from this moment
on.
This is one sweet boy...just look at his eyes. He looks wise!
An update-Charlie has
now had his neuter surgery and also some much needed dental work and is doing
great! So great in fact that his foster
parents said that they want him to live forever with them and Charlie agreed!!!
Charlie is adopted!
|
 |
Toby is
another 1 year old Westie who was surrendered by the same owner as Charlie
(above) Toby is very sweet but very timid right now and will need lots of
love and attention for him to become the Westie we know is in there. He is
being fostered by Alexis and she has just sent us a little into about his first
few days at her home...she writes:

"Since last night, Toby has done
really well. No accidents overnight. No crying either. He slept beside his
crate in the corner of the dining room all night and seemed quite content -
surprising. He went to the bathroom outside in the morning and then spent
the better part of the day in his crate-with the door open. When he finally
came out at about 4, he went right to the door and had a little accident, but
for the rest of this evening has been going to the bathroom outside - it seems
natural to him, so perhaps he did this before as well? Hard to say. The
most amazing thing happened this evening though. We took Toby, Murphy and our
friend's dog for a walk to the beach. Toby played, and eventually was running
along the beach chasing the other two dogs! Toby even went into the lake up to
his tummy and drank from it."
An update-Toby
has now been neutered and will be adopted by Alexis and her family. They just
love this sweet boy and he is gonna have a wonderful and happy life in
Whitby! |
 |
Mr. Bingley
is a 5 year old boy who was found wandering and was picked up by the animal
control. He waited and waited at the shelter for his family to come, but they
never did...so they called Westies in Need and asked for our help. He is
currently with his wonderful foster Mom, Lydia, who also got the task of naming
him for us...she wrote: "Now as for his name, I choose Mr. Bingley (from Jane
Austen's Pride and Prejudice) Why? Because Mr. Bingley is described in this
manner: Mr. Bingley was good looking and gentlemanlike; he had a pleasant
countenance, and easy, unaffected manners."
Mr. Bingley was neutered
today and came through it with no problems...he is now ready to be put up for
adoption.
OK...how about a picture you ask...well here is Mr. Bingley
BEFORE his grooming (keep in mind he is only 15 lbs!)

|
and here is Mr. Bingley AFTER his
grooming (still the same 15 lbs!!!!) Isn't he a handsome boy!!!!!
 |
An
update-Mr. Bingley will now and forever known as Bentley...that is what his new
Mom, Gayle and his new Dad, Jack have decided to call him! Yes, he has been adopted and we could not be happier...also
could not have happened to a nicer Westie! |
 |
Cooper
...well what can we say about this boy! How does perfect sound...or perhaps
once in a lifetime....or possibly the sweetest little one we have seen in a
long time! We think he is a Westie-Mix as he may have some Scottie in
him???
This little male Westie's life started out on a wrong note. He's
only four months old and has already had the misfortune of being born to a back
yard breeder and then sold to a pet store, where he faced euthanasia. Cooper
had not sold due to skin issues. A very kind lady talked the store owner
into giving him to her. She took him home, changed his diet to no grains and
gave him a bath with tar shampoo (smart lady!)
 Cooper quickly showed
signs of improvement but with a heavy heart his owner knew she was unable to
keep him (no dog rule in her building) so she called WiN and we said we'd be
happy to find Cooper a new and forever home! Cooper has had his vet visit
for a physical exam/vaccine, where he charmed everyone at the clinic - even the
resident cat!
Cooper is very friendly, loves dogs and kids! He travels
well in the car, is good on the leash, is crate trained and house training is
in progress!! The vet feels that his skin issues can be easily controlled by
diet.
An update-Cooper's new name is now
Wendel (after Wendel Clark!!!) and he has been adopted by Sarah and her family.
He is now the new little brother to her Westie, Huey! |
 |
Angel is a
10 month old female Westie who was surrendered to us by her owners. The family
travels quite a bit and Angel did not like all the confusion and they felt it
would be best if she was given the opportunity to live a more settled
life.
This is a very pretty girl who needs to be spayed right away. She
will be in foster care for a while till we can get to know her a bit better and
see just what kind of family would be best for Angel.
Here she is
relaxing in her new foster mom's home! |
 |
Duncan is a
20 month old boy who was surrendered by his owner as she was moving to Africa.
Our thanks go out to Herta for contacting us right away and letting us help
Duncan.
Duncan is unfortunately not very good with other
animals and needs a strong terrier savvy owner who will love him and help him
with some of his aggression issues.
He is being fostered by Doug and
Joy who are wonderful folks who want to help Duncan become the happy Westie he
was meant to be.
An update-April 2010- we just
received an e-mail from Duncan's foster family, they
write..." Duncan is doing fine. He is
such a happy dog and well mannered. A few people have stopped with their dogs
when I have been walking with Duncan and after a few minutes he is playing with
them. He is great with everyone in the family and he gives everyone licks and
kisses. My daughter and her boyfriend went for a walk on Sunday with her
boyfriend's dog which is a shih tsu pug mix. The dogs got along fine together.
Duncan has brought so much joy and happiness to our family since our other dog
passed away. I cannot imagine what life would be like without Duncan if he were
no longer here."
An update-Duncan
has been adopted! Doug and his family just love our Duncan and have made it
official....he will be their boy! |
 |
Sophie is
our very pretty, pretty girl who has been surrendered to us along with her
partner Milo (below).
Sophie has been a breeding Westie for all of her very short 3 years
of life and was surrendered to WiN as her owner is now ready to retire from
breeding.
This kind and gentle girl needs to be spayed and have her
dental work done and then she can finally begin her new life.
We feel
she will do best in a quiet home where her family can love her and she can gain
her confidence back!
Jan and Karen will be fostering our Sophie for us.
Thanks so much!!!
An update-Sophie has been
adopted! She will go in on Friday for her spay and her dental work and then
will be all set to begin in her life as Lola's new Westie
sister!!!! |
 |
Milo
is
a 1 1/2 year old boy who was a breeding Westie and was surrendered along with
Sophie (above) to Westies in Need when the breeder decided to no longer
continue her business.
The folks who transported him to us said "this is
one lovely boy...sweet, friendly and so much fun...who ever adopts this boy is
gonna be one lucky family!" Well we just can't agree more...this is one
seriously adorable Westie.
Terrence and William will be fostering this
boy for us and we will keep you all updated about his progress...first stop
neuter!
An update-Milo sailed through his
neuter surgery with no problems at all...in fact it did not stop him for a
moment! He had a very long talk with
Terrence and William when he came home from the Vet and discussed a long term
relationship with them and they all agreed that he had to stay and live with
them forever...so papers signed...he is now adopted! |
 |
Hope
(OK..I'm gonna try not to cry...here goes!) came to us from a bad, bad, bad
mill in Quebec. She is only 4 years old and was surrendered because she can no
longer breed. How can we say thank you enough to Jenn, the wonderful and
tireless WiN volunteer who took this girl from the hell she was in! Her paw
pads were raw and bloody from years of standing on a metal grate.
Hope
was removed from the mill and took her very first car ride and was then placed
in the waiting arms of her foster dad, Andreas. She will need to be in foster
care for a while till we can get a really good handle on her health and her
emotional state, but we can do that!
Anything for Hope!
Here is a picture of our
Hope...she has now had her very first bath, slept in a warm and dry bed for the
first time in her life and even was allowed to walk on grass in the backyard
(she had never been out of a 2 ft. by ft. cage at the mill, ever!)
Look
at that face...
An update-Hope has seen the Vet
and she is in AMAZING shape considering where she lived. She, of course, needs
to be spayed and have dental work done, but she is in remarkably good
condition. This little girl is quite special indeed...has learned to go to the
bathroom outside, to go up and down stairs and fall fast asleep on the couch in
all less than a week! We will be
letting her just relax for the next few weeks, learn how to play with toys (she
does not have a clue how to play) and just enjoy her new
life.
Another update----well, this
was such a tough one to decide...we got so many GREAT adoption applications for
our girl Hope...but after she reviewed them all, gave them all a good sniff and
a lick...she decided she wanted to live in Barrie with Janet, Brian and Cole
and have 2 new brothers...a sweet, big boy named Riley and a Westie brother
named Monty. |
 |
Harley is a
2 year old Westie who was used for breeding by his owner. She contacted WiN to
let us know that she would be surrendering him to us and we were sure glad to
help out. Thanks Holly for letting us help Harley!
He had been an
outdoor dog, living only in a pen for his life and we were a bit unsure how he
would take to living in a home...well we should not have worried at
all!

Harley has had only 2 accidents in the house since his
foster family got him, is walking on a leash like he has been doing it for
years and has taken to sleeping in a warm, dry bed and lounging on the couch
like it was second nature.
This sweet and loving boy goes in for his
neuter this week and then will be up for adoption when he has
recovered.
Thanks Dawn for fostering...and thanks to Fred for teaching
Harley how to be an indoor dog!
An
update-Harley's new name is now Winston!!!!! After Winston came home from his
Vet appointment when he was neutered, Fred had a long talk with his Mom and
asked if they could keep Winston as his forever Westie brother and Dawn said
OK!!! Winston has been adopted by Fred the Golden Retriever! |
 |
Molly is a 3
year old unspayed female who could no longer breed for her owner and was
surrendered to us. Thanks to Sylvie for contacting Westies in Need and allowing
us to help her Westie.
Molly is the sweetest and most loving girl
that you can ever imagine...this little girl is simply precious!
Here
she is enjoying an afternoon in the sun.
Thanks Anna for fostering
for us. She needs to be spayed right away and then she will be ready for
adoption.
An update-Molly has now been spayed
and Anna could not even think of giving her up, so she had been adopted and
will live in Anna's home forever with her new brother, Angus! |
 |
Simon was
surrendered to Westies in Need by his family of 7 years because he was not
enjoying living with 2 one year old boys!!!! Simon is a lovely boy who will be
looking for his forever home shortly.

He is up to date on
all his shots, is fully house trained and has been neutered.
Thanks
to Ron and Jeff for fostering this little boy for us.
An update-Simon has been adopted by Jeff and Ron and is
loving his new life. See you at the Westie Walk in September
Simon! |
 |
Huck is
another puppymill surrender from Quebec. Huck is loving all his new found
affection but he can be a bit dominant and he loves to talk alot.

Huck needs an adult only home with an 'Alpha' owner,
experienced with terrier attitude/behaviour.
Huck is not fully house
broken yet but that will come quickly with the right loving family.
Huck
has now been neutered and has had his bad, bad teeth all cleaned and polished!
He is up to date with all his shots and is now ready to move to an
adoption.
An update-Huck has been adopted! A
wonderful lady named Liz will make Huck a member of her family! |
 |
Sawyer is
also a puppymill surrender who is learning to trust his foster folks and
learning quickly that affection is a positive thing. He is very friendly but
still a bit nervous around people and other dogs.

Sawyer needs a patient owner who will continue to socialize
and house train him.
An update-Sawyer has
been adopted. He will now have the Westie life that he has always dreamed
of...could not have happened to a nicer boy! |
 |
The Stork has come
to Westies in Need!!!!
One of our little rescues was
surrendered to us and we soon found out that she was pregnant (see the story of
our Brinkley below) and on January 2nd, she had 5 little Westies...3 boys and 2
girls.
Mom and babies are doing great..here are some pictures taken the
very day they arrived....and one picture of our Brinkley just before her labour
began!!!
|
An
update-January 25, 2010: The puppies continue to thrive...here is a little
updated picture of them at 3 weeks. They are so cute!

Another update below-January
30, 2010: The puppies at 4 weeks...they are getting so big! Look at those
Westie bums!!!

Our last puppy
update-Feb 26th 2010: The puppies have now all been adopted and are going
to their new and forever homes this weekend. Many thanks to the dozens and dozens of fabulous adoption
applications we received for these babies! It was such a difficult decision for
us to choose the 5 successful families!
|
 |
Brinkley is
a young female who was surrendered along with a male we called Edward . She was
filthy & matted when she arrived at Westies in Need and we are very sorry
to say that this little one (who already had one littler of puppies-keep in
mind she is ONLY 1 1/2 years old) may be pregnant again.
Brinkley's paw pads are not in good shape, they are cracked and
splayed, as if she had spent many hours standing on a harsh wire cage.
This tiny girl needs a ton of TLC....so she has come to the right
place!
....here she is, just out of the bath...look at that
face!!!
An update: Well, bad news...our
Brinkley is going to have puppies! The ultrasound confirmed that there are 5
Westies coming into the world shortly. We do NOT want to celebrate having these puppies, but since
we can not turn back time, we must make the best of it. She is beyond cute and sweet and hopefully it will be an
easy time for her....then after the puppies are all adopted out on VERY strict
spay and neuter contracts, she will be off to the Vet herself for her spay!
Another Update! Brinkley has
now been adopted. No more puppies for our girl, just a wonderful new life with
her new sister. Below is a picture of our Brin (that is her new name!) on the
left with her big sister Maggie (another one of our rescues!) on the right in
her new Daddy's arms.
|
 |
Bailey was
surrendered by her owner because she could no longer breed for him...so out she
had to go!!! This small, 6 year old girl is the sweetest, most loving, kind and
happy Westie you will meet.

Look at that face...

When she came to
us she was so matted and dirty, she had to be shaved right down to the skin
(that is why she looks so naked and red in the picture) but her fur will grow
back quickly!
She has had WAY too many litters, so her spay surgery may
be tough and she needs major dental work done before she gets adopted...but she
will be a wonderful Westie for someone...we just love our Bailey!
An update: Miss Bailey has been spayed and has had her bad,
bad teeth all cleaned. Now for even
better news....our Bailey has been adopted to a lovely family in the Ottawa
area...our thanks to JoAnne and her husband for taking our Bailey into their
family. |
 |
Lilly is a
sad, sad story. We are sorry to post her picture here as we know how she looks,
but we just thought our wonderful Westies in Need families would like to know
why we do what we do...well Lilly is the reason.

She was surrendered to us by a lady in Sudbury, Ontario who
could not financially or emotionally care for her any longer. As you can see
she is our worst case of Malassezia we have ever had and she is in pretty rough
shape.
Our thanks goes out to Elaine and Ron (the same lovely family
who adopted our little blind girl Tara) for leaving their home at 7:30 am and
driving 4 ½ hours north to Sudbury to pick her up and then turning
around and driving right back!
Lilly was one year old on the 28th of
November and has lived like this for most of her short life.
She is now
living at my home for a VERY long foster period. I will give you updates about
her over the next few days, weeks and months
but right now we are only
taking things one day at a time as she is a pretty sick little girl!
Her care will be long and expensive, but she is worth it. If you think
you could make a donation to directly support our Lilly we would sure
appreciate it...(every penny would help!)
You can mail a donation to:
Westies in Need, 1392, 8th Line, RR#4, Tottenham, ONT, L0G 1W0 or just click
away on our PayPal button.

Old Blue
Eyes...
OK...this one is not really a WiN
Westie..
but when we found this old picture of Frank Sinatra
with a sweet little Westie, we just knew we had to put it on our website,
somewhere!!!
Can you blame us??? |
 |
