Success Stories
One of our little rescues was named Lilly- she was the
worst case of skin problems we had ever seen when she arrived into our rescue
program.
The Pet Network saw her info on our website and asked if they
could do a story on our Lilly and our rescue.

Westies in Need (WiN) works very hard to match our
wonderful dogs with equally wonderful new families. Here are some of our

Luna... is a
4 year old spayed little girl who
 was
given to us by a shelter-thanks to Amy for going and getting this girl for
us!
The shelter knew we were the very best folks to find her a forever
home and we were happy to help!
An
update...Luna has been adopted. She has joined the Rowe family, who also
adopted Angus from us, so their family is now
complete!!!

Nickie... is
only 2 years old and is the first of our "Quebec 5" that you see directly
below...
 who all came to us on the same day, on the same transport...all from
a same breeder...and all now safe and sound!
She is in a great foster
home and is going in for her Vet appt. right away!
An update...Nickie has been adopted! This little girl has found
a wonderful "fur"ever home!

Rosie... is
a 6 year old girl who, like Nickie (above) and Sophia and Maya (below) is a
little one from a breeder.
 She is such a great girl, a bit shy but that will not take long to
get over!

An
update...Rosie has been adopted. She is a lucky girl to have found such a
wonderful family. Could not have happened to a nicer
Westie!

Sophia... is
a 4 year old breeder surrender and her foster Mom just can not say enough nice
things about this girl!
She is a darling Westie who comes up to you and puts her
paws on your knees and asks to be patted....so sweet!
This poor love
has spent so much time in a crate that she has rubbed some fur off the top of
her little nose, but that will grow back quickly now that she is
out.

An update...Sophia has
been adopted.

Maya... is a
2 1/2 year old girl who was used for breeding, but not any longer!!!!
This girl has obviously made herself quite at home at her
foster Mom's house as you can see---and this picture was taken on the very
first night she arrived!!!!
An update...Maya
has been spayed etc. and best of all...she has been adopted. She has joined the
Solomon family...the family is now complete!!!

Wilson... is
a 3 year old boy and also the "husband" of Nickie, Rosie, Maya and Sophia that
you see above!
 We have not told sweet Wilson that activity is behind
him now, but I am sure he will get the point on Saturday when he goes for his
neuter!!!!!
This kind and gentle boy is such a love-gave kisses as soon
as he got off the transport! He needs a good bath and a trim.

Sophie... is
a 6 year old spayed girl who is just about the nicest Westie we have ever met.
Look at that smile!
She has a coat that any Westie would die for,
walks so well on a leash, is house broken and is a snuggler of the highest
order!

has a new Westie sister named Chloe and two wonderful new Dads to love her
forever! |

Tommy... is
a 5 year old, neutered male who is an owner surrender.
Thank you to his family who have trusted us to find him a
new and forever home! Tommy is, well we just have to say it...PERFECT! What a
nice boy!
He is house broken, walks very well on his leash, loves other
dogs and is a good kisser.
Welcome Tommy!
An update...Tommy has been adopted. Tommy had a very long talk
with his foster family and told them how happy he was, so he is now a permanent
part of the family! |

Teeko...is a
16 month old owner surrender and what a ‘LOVE BUG’ this boy is!
His
foster parents are first time fosters and they are having a blast getting him
settled in.
Teeko will be off to our vet in the next few days to be
neutered and have his vaccines updated.
He is being fostered in the
Ottawa area.
An update...Teeko has been

Jasper... is
an 2 year old boy who was surrendered by his family when they could no longer
take care of him.
He has now been neutered and is up to date with all his
shots.
He is enjoying relaxing in his foster home right now and will be
ready for adoption shortly.

Holly... is
an 8 month old Westie mix who was found as a stray and no one came to claim
her.
Our poor little girl sat in the humane society waiting for
her family... who never arrived.
The shelter
called us right away and asked for our help in finding her a new and forever
home.
Holly is in foster care right now as we get to know her a bit
better. She has been spayed and is up to date with all her shots! |

Beth... is
about 3 years old and was surrendered into our rescue. She needs to be spayed,
have her dental done and
 also her vaccinations updated...but we are happy to do all this for
our Beth.
Beth had lots of mats in her fur, so she needed to be shaved
right down...no worries though...as we all know,
Westie hair grows quickly!
What a
sweet little girl this is, loves to play with toys and is very cuddly. She will
be such a wonderful addition to a home. Welcome Beth.
An update...Beth has been adopted. This beyond sweet girl will
have the best time living with Nancy! |

The 8 Westies you see directly
below are all rescues from a puppy mill located in Shawville, Quebec. The mill
was closed down by the authorities and all of the 500 plus dogs were seized.
We are so very proud to have been chosen by the Humane Society
International to receive all of the Westies and we can not begin to thank them
enough for their trust and confidence in our rescue.
A warm Westie welcome to Muffin, Steven, Winnie, Lizzy, Sadie,
Angus, Mikey, Colin and 5 of the cutest puppies you have ever seen!
You
truly were Westies in Need and we are happy that we were here for
you.

Muffin... is
only about 4 years old and is the Mommy of the little puppies that you will see
below...keep scrolling!
 This adorable girl was named Muffin as our
wonderful transport volunteer thought she was "absolutely
delicious!".
Muffin is all set for her spay in
the New Year-she needs to wean her puppies and then be given a few weeks to
recover.
The VERY good news is that
Muffin has been adopted! |

Steven... is
a 2 year old boy who is very handsome!
He is the sweetest Westie and is neutered and up to date on
all his shots and is happy all the time!
An
update...Steven has been adopted. Steven, Charlotte and little Piper will now
be a family. |

Winnie... is
1 year old girl who is very TINY, weighing in at 12.5 lbs.
She is very cute and is happy to be out of the puppy mill. Every day
she gets a wee bit more adventurous – checking out her new surroundings
and loving her new backyard!
Her foster family and her “foster big
Westie sister” are enjoying her tremendously and she has already fit right
into living in a home! She loves to snuggle and follow her foster family around
– a very curious, alert little girl, with a happy wagging tail
disposition!
She needs to have a good bath-we have to wait a few more days
as she has just been spayed-but she is such a beauty!
That face could
just make me melt!
An update: our Winnie has
been adopted. This little girl is going to such a wonderful family and we could
not be happier. Hey Winnie, you just won the lottery girl! |

Lizzy... is
7 year old little girl and is such a cuddler-there are no words!
She is so mushy and just wants to love and be loved by her
foster family!
An update...Lizzy has been
adopted! YEA! Marie met this adorable girl and knew that she would be the
perfect Mommy for her! |

Sadie... is
a young girl who is such a
 little thing-a lovely girl who is so happy to be out of the mill and
is enjoying her foster home!
She needs a good bath and a groom and then
she will look like a perfect Westie.
An update...Sadie has been adopted! Her foster Mommy knew
this was the perfect girl for her and has decided to adopt her! Wonderful news.
A few short weeks ago Sadie was living
in squalor in a puppy mill that the Humane Society International said was one
of the worst they have seen, and today she is adopted and will live in love and
comfort for the rest of her life. A good day! |

Angus... is
3 years old and is another one of our Westies from the puppy mill.
He is just the nicest little boy that anyone could ask
for...he is so happy to be living the good life now!
An update...Angus has been adopted. Judy knew this boy was
the perfect Westie for her and he agreed.
His new name will be Toby! |

Mikey......
is 2 years old and is such a friendly boy.
His foster Mom said that he is a real character and is
having a great time enjoying his new life!
Mikey is neutered and up to
date on his shots.
An update...Mikey has been
adopted! He is the perfect boy for Ron and Lina and will be a very well loved
Westie for sure! |

Colin......
is a young boy who is the last of our adult Westies from the puppy mill.
He is neutered, up to date on his shots and is very loving.
He is only about 10 lbs

PUPPIES...... it is puppy time at Westies in Need...oh my!!!
One of our little rescues (little Muffin that you saw above) had come into our
rescue and she was pregnant.
As you can
see from the pictures below she had 3 girls (Meaghan, Gracie and Kenzie) and 2
boys (Fergus and McTavish.)
As you can also see very clearly, it
certainly looks like she had more than one "gentleman caller". These are Westie
mixes (their Mommy is a lovely purebred Westie..but that is about all we know
for sure!!!)

Oscar......
is a 4 year old boy who is a real sweetheart. He is an owner surrender.
He is neutered and
walks very well on his leash and is a very nice boy indeed!

Belle... is
a 2 year old little girl who is an owner surrender. She is such a cute little
girl
(I know---we say that about all of the Westies but what can
we do---they are all CUTE!!)
She is sweet and VERY playful, loves to
toss toys up in the air and catch them! She is spayed, walks a bit strong on
her leash (which we will work on right away) and loves other dogs. She loves to
run, so a fenced yard will be a must for our Belle.
Look at those
eyes...can just melt your heart. Look at that smile...it's a Westie smile for
sure!
An update...Belle has been adopted! Our

Winston...
is a 3 year old boy who is an owner surrender.
He is a really cutie, as you can see from his picture! He
needs to be neutered right away but then will be all set to move on to a new
and forever home.
Winston would do best in a home with other dogs as
he just loves to play and in a home with someone who is home most if not all of
the day--he sure loves his people too! He is a real character.
Don't
you love the "Westie head tilt" that they do!
An update...Winston has been adopted. Our boy has found a
great new family and new Westie brother named Cooper as
well! |

Spike...
(don't you love that name!) is a 2 year old Westie/Yorkie mix who is
 just about the cutest thing we have seen!
Look at that face!
He is neutered, happy and healthy!
He is being
fostered right now in the Windsor area and will be ready for adoption
shortly.
An update...Spike has been adopted! He
is the perfect boy for Barb and Lou and will be a very well loved Westie for
sure! |

Reece... is
a 6 year old boy who was an owner surrender.
He is a very lovely boy who really needs some TLC and he has
sure come to the right place.
Many thanks to his previous owners for
calling us and allowing us to help Reece.

Jack... is a
6 month old puppy who is an owner surrender. Jack was born with only one
eye-but we can assure you-it does not slow him down!
This is one cute
boy who is a Westie puppy all the way!

been tended to.

Tessy... is
a 1 1/2 year old little girl who is an owner surrender.
 This very loving little Westie walks well on her leash, is house
trained and is just a joy! As you can see she likes to snuggle with toys as
well.

An update...Tessy has
been adopted.
We can not begin to tell
everyone how many adoption applications we had for this one Westie...it was a
very difficult decision but Tessy has decided that she would like to live with
Heidi. We just love ya Tessy-you are one of those "one in a million dollar"
kinda girls! |

Mia... is a
small Westie-mix who
 found herself dropped off at a humane society when her previous
owner died.
We were so happy to help this loving and kind
girl.
Just look at her face...her eyes look like they were saying
"please help me" and we are so honoured to do that for her!
An update...Mia has been adopted by Ruth and her family!!!)

Sophie...
(OK...gonna try not to cry, but sometimes it's hard not to) is a little girl
who was taken from a home that the authorities said was "beyond description" (I
can't even think about it... )
 Sophie is so cute, so kind and so trusting for a poor
soul who has not had the easiest start in life...BUT..that is all behind her
now!
Now we must only look forward and tell you about her...Sophie is
about 6 or 7 years old and is a kisser and lover of the highest order.
Just look at that face---don't you want to just wanna kiss
it!!!!!

Maggie... is
a lovely little girl who just turned 6 years old this month.
Our thanks go to her family who contacted Westies in Need
and who has put their trust in us to find her a new, loving and "fur"ever new
home.
Maggie is such a little cutie-so much fun and just loves to
play-what a little character this girl is.
She is being fostered in
the Windsor area and will be such a great addition to just the right
family.
An update...Maggie has been adopted. It
sure did not take long for this girl to find a new and forever home---one of
the sweetest Westies we have had the pleasure to know! Congratulations Maggie!

Princess...
is a spayed, Westie/Mix (we think she may have a bit of Cocker Spaniel in her)
who was surrendered by her owner into our rescue as they were moving and could
not take her.
 She is house-trained, walks well on the leash and likes
to go on car rides. Princess is good with other dogs and children. She is 5
years old and weighs about 30 lbs.
She is very cuddly and sweet and
once you begin to pet her and you try and stop she will reach out, push her
head under your arm asking that you continue.
She will sit for long
periods on the back of the couch sleeping and enjoying the view.
An update...Princess has been adopted! She is now the very
loved and forever girl to Lynnann! |

Bonny... is
CUTE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Big time cute!!!
This little Westie is an owner
surrender
Bonny is about 6 years old, spayed but does need some
dental done, so that will be our first order of business.
This is one
adorable girl! Just look at that face!

update...Bonny has been adopted!
Congratulations Jim and Karen on your new addition! They
called us to say that Bonny is 100% PERFECT! They feel so lucky to have her and
I bet Bonny feels the same way about them! |

Chloe...is
5-6 years old and is a small Westie who found herself in a VERY bad situation
with her friend Riley (below) and were removed from their home, along with a
number of other dogs.
Chloe is spayed, up to date of her shots and is perhaps one
of the sweetest girls we have had in our rescue.
She is in foster care
right now with Riley till we can evaluate them-but we are so glad they are in
our care and safe and happy and healthy!!!!!
An
update...Chloe has been adopted. She spoke to us at length and told us that she
just had to be adopted out with Riley (below) cause who would snuggle her and
wash her ears if he wasn't there to do it.
We agreed---you can not argue with that kind of logic!

Riley..is
about 5 years old and is a bit bigger than Chloe (above) but still a small
Westie.
He needed to be neutered (all done!!!) and is now
"living the life of Riley" (sorry...could not pass up an easy joke like
that!!!) at his foster Mom's home.
His tail is in constant motion-this
is one happy boy!
An update...Riley has been
adopted and will live for all time with his new family and his best friend,
Chloe (above). You can not come between true love...we knew they had to stay
together. |

Mr
Magoo...is 10 years old. He is neutered, up to date on shots and is an
owner surrender.
 He is a VERY good looking Westie. He is sweet and loves
when you spend time with him - he likes to be close. He plays like a puppy. He
picks up his ball, brings it to you, as soon as his foster Mom picks it up he
starts wagging his tail and assumes play stance.
He truly is a
fantastic dog…sweet, loving and adorable. He sits, stays, comes when
called, and has the energy of a much younger dog. He rides well in a
car…he just lays down or sits and looks out the window.
An update...Mr Magoo has been adopted! He is now the very
loved and forever boy to Karen and James! |

Dom... is an
8 month old boy who is an owner surrender.
Dom is such
 a
cute boy who is already bonding to his foster Mom and is following her all over
the house.
He goes in right away for his neuter surgery and then
will be all set and ready for adoption.
An
update...Dominic has been neutered and came through with flying colours! He has
been adopted and his new name will be Charlie! Karen knew this boy was for
her! |

Keeba... is
an 11 year old female Westie who is an owner surrender.
She is spayed and loves to ride in the car and walks well on
her leash.
She is being fostered in the Ottawa area and was strutting
her stuff at the Ottawa Westie Walk!

update...Keeba has been adopted! She met Claudia and her family and knew this
was the home she wanted! |

Oliver... is
a 1 1/2 year old Westie mix who was found wandering and was picked up by the
humane society.
They called us right away asking for our help and we
said sure! Who could say no to that face!
Oliver is very sweet, loves
other dogs and people and is having the best time running around with his
foster Mom's 2 other Westie boys! He needs to be neutered and some dental work
as well which is all set for this week!
An
update...Oliver, has been adopted. He arrived into his foster Mommies' home and
thought "this is the place I want to stay" and they all agreed! Congratulations
Oliver! |

Edward... is
a 2 1/2 year old neutered male purebred Westie who was surrendered to us for
his on-going skin issues. This poor, sweet boy is
 (as you can see) in pretty bad shape.
The good news is, he
has come to the right place....he truly is a Westie in Need and we are gonna
make him feel so much better.
Edward is a lovely boy, really quite
wonderful in fact-and through everything he has endured, he still has a great
sparkle in his eye that we love to see.
We will keep you all updated
with Edward pictures!
An update...as promised,
here are some updated pictures of our Edward...just look at how good he looks
in only a month or so! We gotta say we are pretty proud of our Edward...Westies

A final update...Edward,
has been adopted. This was a VERY hard adoption for our rescue as this little
boy has sure gotten into everyone's heart...so choosing a forever family for
our Edward was difficult, but Sandra and Bob were the very lucky family who
were chosen to care for our boy forever. We love ya Edward! |

Molly... is
a 3 1/2 month old female puppy who has been surrendered by her family as they
could no longer take care for her.
What can we say...is there anything cuter than a
Westie puppy????

Curly...
well, such a story about our girl Curly!
Westies in Need received an
emergency e-mail from a shelter in Iqaluit in Nunavut (if you do not know where
that is…picture Greenland!!!!!) that they were being forced to close
because of lack of funds and lack of volunteers and asked if we could help with
a little Westie-mix they had there!
We contacted them right away to get
some info about her-here is what they said:
"She was a stray, a
street beggar on the local streets of Iqlauit. She was picked up by the city
animal control officers and held for 72 hours to see if anyone in the town
missed her or called to claim her. No one ever did. She then came to our little
shelter, where we vaccinated her and dewormed her. Right now she doesn't like
to have her paws touched-we think she has suffered frost bite and they are
sensitive. A little Westie doesn't stand the best chances on her own in the
Arctic where temperatures can reach -70. You will honestly be giving her a
better chance in life and for that we have to thank you from the bottom our
volunteer hearts and the bottom of her little paws." 
So yesterday, via a Canadian North Cargo aircraft, she
made the VERY long flight south to Ottawa and was welcomed into the loving arms
of our transport person and then driven to her new foster family.
This
sweet girl was so hungry she almost ate the bowl along with her food and then
jumped up onto a lap for a long, long snooze.
She is going into the
groomer right away where we will ask them to give her a good shave right down
so we can evaluate her skin etc., then to the Vet for a full check up and next
booked for her spay and dental.
Welcome Curly....it sure is warmer
here-hope you like the south!
An update... our girl
has been groomed and the general consciences is that she is a Westie/Bichon
Frise mix. What ever she may be, she is 100% adorable.
 This little one walks well on a leash,
rides in the car like a dream, has the most amazing manners in house and has
not had one potty accident since she arrived. Her fur is a bit curly like a
Bichon Frise but she sure has some Westie in there as well. Here is her latest
pic after her grooming.
Another update....Curly (or Lexie as she will now be known)
has been adopted! Jacque and Liz met this princess and just knew she was the
right girl for them! |

Kerry... was
surrendered into our rescue, along with Lettie below, as the breeder who had
them was retiring.
This is a pretty little girl and is already walking well on
her leash and is such a sweet and kind Westie.
She needs to be spayed
and have her dental done but as soon as she is all done will be up for
adoption.
An update...Kerry has been adopted.
Our girl, who's new name will be Tilly, has been spayed and had her dental done
and is now living with Jackie and her family and loving every minute of
it! |

Lettie... is
the 2nd of our little ones surrendered by the retiring breeder.
She also will need to be spayed and get her shots and dental
taken care of and then will be all set to begin her new life.
An update...Lettie has been adopted. Carole and her family
are the perfect match for this VERY pretty girl and she will be forever
loved. |

Higgins...
is a 4 1/2 year old neutered boy who is a cuddler of the highest order his
foster Mom tells us. This boy sure can kiss too. He also does this adorable
little thing of sitting on his haunches and rubs his front legs together when
he gets excited or wants to play.
He is good with
children and likes other dogs. Higgins did have a lung removed when he was 5
months old, but it does not seem to bother him-he can still snuggle up a storm,
which seems to be his favourite thing!
He sure is a people dog and needs
a loving family he can call his own.
An
update...Higgins has been adopted. Our boy Higgins met Pat and Dave and he
chose them to be his forever family! He even gets a new Westie sister named
Aspen! |

Sadie... is
a 4 year old little girl who was surrendered into our rescue. She is a little
thing-only about 15 lbs and was used as a breeding girl-but that is all behind
her now!
 Sadie is just lovely...she is gving kisses and is
wagging her tail all the time now. She walks very well on a leash, is good with
children and LOVES other dogs. Sadie is still a bit frightened at times when
something new happens, but she is learning every day...her house training is
almost complete (although there are still a few accidents as she is still
learning how to ask to go outside)
She is going in for her spay and then
will be ready to find a forever family!

update...Sadie has been adopted. Brad and his family met our Sadie and knew she
was the girl for them! |
