Westies in Need (WiN) works very hard to match our wonderful dogs with equally wonderful new families. Here are some of our success stories!
One of our little rescues was named Lilly - she was the worst case of skin problems we had ever seen when she arrived into our rescue program. The Pet Network saw her info on our website and asked if they could do a story on our Lilly and our rescue. Click here to watch the video of Lilly and her journey...they did a great job and we can't thank the Pet Network enough for supporting us! Lilly says THANKS too!
Gambler is a 2 yr old westie/maltese mix that was saved from being euthanized at a shelter.

Jeremy.....well...where do we even begin! OK, we will start at the beginning...
Late one afternoon the phone rang and it was the Montreal SPCA ... they have a 13 year old partially deaf, visually impaired Westie that was brought in to them as a stray. They've held him the required time for a stray and he's now ready to be released....would our rescue take him???? Of course we would!
Our WONDERFUL co ordinator in Quebec jumped into the car to head over to the SPCA to pick up this senior fellow. She arrived to find a filthy little Westie ... covered in dreadlocks and caked in excrement. So pitiful looking, long hair covering his face ... you couldn't even see his eyes!
Stiff from being caged the last 12 days, it took us a long time, to go a really short distance ... over 15 minutes and we'd only made it to the parking lot. However, this boy was happy to be outside in the fresh air.
We found a GREAT foster home and he was welcomed with open arms. A bath was next, then gently trimming some hair and crusted discharge from his eyes. Jeremy was very sensitive to anyone touching his face.
Next was a visit to the Vet...bloodwork was done and believe it or not, his blood panel results were amazing, so an appointment was booked for his dental work. Not a wonder this poor boy didn't want anyone to touch his face, his mouth was in a horrific state!!! While under anesthetic ... 14 teeth were removed, the remaining scaled and polished, his nails clipped (they were so long they had curled under into his pads!!) and his paw pads cleaned up ... they were infected from so much tangled hair and excrement caked into them. Anti-biotics and pain meds ... he was on his way to his foster home to begin recovery.
Each day has been a new beginning for Jeremy ... he has been gaining strength and feeling better!
An update...Jeremy has been adopted. We are very excited to share that Jeremy will find his forever home with Susan from Ottawa. It was LOVE at first sight! Susan has been a Westie owner her entire life and is very excited to become a family with Jeremy.

Katie is a 10 yr old darling who came into rescue today. This was a heart wrenching decision for Katie's Ma-ma as she is in the hospital with Stage 4 cancer and not able to care for her. We assured Katie's Ma-ma that we'd take really good care of her!!!
Miss Katie is fostering with wonderful volunteers in Ottawa
An update...Katie had been labelled as not house trained but at no fault of hers, she had been suffering from Hormonal Urinary Incontience from a spay a few years prior. A medication called Stilbestrol (hormone supplement) has Katie no longer soiling herself while sleeping or standing .. she is dry over night and beginning to get the concept of asking to go outdoors to do her business!! This sweet wee girl had been experiencing diarrhea off/on for a long period of time and low and behold wasn't her B12 low and folate high in her blood results. Again, at no fault of Katie's she was suffering from SIBO (small intestinal bacteria overgrowth). She has responded well to a series of B12 injections to build her up and will continue monthly injections for the remainer of her life. Katie was also very thin, having several bowel movements per day (7-8). A special blood test confirmed our suspicion that Katie has EPI - Exoocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency and requires a special pancrease enzyme powder added to a wee bit of plain yougurt just before her meals, to aid in the digestion and absoprtion of nutrients. Katie has reached her ideal weight for her petite frame!!!
We are so very excited to share the news that Katie has been adopted (here is an updated picture!) and joined her new furever family! There are not enough words to express our thanks to those who will open their hearts and home to take in a senior Westie and we are elated to share this "happy ending" story! WE love you Katie ... all the best to you in your new home!!!!!!!!!!
Old Blue Eyes...
OK...this one is not really a WiN Westie
... but when we found this old picture of Frank Sinatra with a sweet little Westie, we just knew we had to put it on our website, somewhere!!!
Can you blame us???
