a % of your order to our rescue! |
Support our Rescue::
Westies in Need (WiN) relies entirely on our fundraising events, small adoption
fees and the generosity of Westie-lovers like yourself to continue rescuing
Westies. Money received is used to pay for medical expenses for a Westie such
as neuter or spay surgery, heartworm treatment, vaccinations and much more.
Your support allows us to rescue and provide the care each Westie needs. All
funds go directly to the care of the Westies in our Rescue Program.
WiN
is 100% public support operated and we could not survive without caring folks
like you.
 |
If would like to make a donation to our rescue it
is as easy as a few mouse clicks away.
If you use PayPal, do
on-line banking or can mail in a donation...just click on the
Donate Today logo on the left and follow the
instructions! |
We don't ask our Volunteers to do everything...we ask
that you consider doing just one thing. No one can do everything, but
perhaps if you could do just one thing it will all add up to a whole
bunch of everything! If you can volunteer,
we would sure love to hear from
you!
Transport: Volunteer
to help transport a Westie from the shelter to their foster home or from their
foster home to their forever home. Let us know if you are available to
transport from time to time. Just click here! |
 |
| Home
Visit: Volunteer to fulfil a pre-adoption home visit for a rescued
Westie waiting to go home to a prospective family. This involves visiting the
home of an applicant adoptive family after their interviews and reference
checks are completed to meet the prospective family in person. If you can help,
just click here! |
 |
Foster: Offer a temporary foster home for a Westie. If
you have room in your home, you might consider fostering for us. We are always
looking for new foster parents. Fostering is an enriching, rewarding
experience. Our Westies sometimes come from puppy mill busts, euthanasia
lists from shelters or sometimes they come from families who can no longer care
for them. If you are an experienced dog family with a big heart and a desire to
give a homeless Westie a second chance at life, you are our kinda folks!
Our volunteers are dedicated and loving
people and are the backbone of the WiN team. We appreciate them more than words
could ever say...but one of our Westies wanted to try to show them how much we
care...so we dedicated this little video to our WiN volunteers! Click here to see the video! |
|
WiN
does not have a shelter or physical location. Instead, we operate through a
tight-knit network of rescue coordinators and foster homes, trying to rescue as
many Westies as possible. Our foster homes are the private residences of
individuals who want to help Westies in need, giving them a safe and loving
sanctuary while we try to match them with a qualified permanent adoptive home.
People interested in fostering must apply and be screened and approved
to be a Westie Foster home. We do careful checks both for our foster home
applicants and our adoption applicants to make sure that the dogs get the best
possible and most responsible care. As a foster parent, you would decide
when (and if) to accept a new foster dog. Click
here to download a volunteer application. Complete the application and
please e-mail or mail it in to us. |
 |
Organize a
fundraiser or event: Can you organize an event for us?? A Westie
walk or a Westie Fun day???
and we can give you more info!
|
 |
and last but not least, please
spay or neuter your pet and please do not support puppy mills and backyard
breeders by purchasing a Westie from a pet store.
| Please support Westies in Need or your
local shelter! |

| I RESCUED A HUMAN TODAY |
Her eyes met mine as she walked down the corridor
peering apprehensively into the kennels. I felt her need instantly and knew I
had to help her.
I wagged my tail, not too exuberantly, so she wouldn't
be afraid. As she stopped at my kennel I blocked her view from a little
accident I had in the back of my cage. I didn't want her to know that I hadn't
been walked today. Sometimes the overworked shelter keepers get too busy and I
didn't want her to think poorly of them.
As she read my kennel card I
hoped that she wouldn't feel sad about my past. I only have the future to look
forward to and want to make a difference in someone's life.
She got
down on her knees and made little kissy sounds at me. I shoved my shoulder and
side of my head up against the bars to comfort her. Gentle fingertips caressed
my neck; she was desperate for companionship. A tear fell down her cheek and I
raised my paw to assure her that all would be well.
Soon my kennel door
opened and her smile was so bright that I instantly jumped into her arms. I
would promise to keep her safe. I would promise to always be by her side. I
would promise to do everything I could to see that radiant smile and sparkle in
her eyes.
I was so fortunate that she came down my corridor. So many
more are out there who haven't walked the corridors. So many more to be saved.
At least I could save one.
I rescued a human today. |
Work can wait another 30 minutes. There are
more important things to do. Like throwing sticks!! |
